Dealing with Expectations

Hi everyone! I'm Elena and this time I'll talk about a class that we had in our College Prep Mentoring class that I liked a lot, and it was about dealing with expectations, hard times, and burnout. I really wanted to share about this topic because I think it's something that people usually do not talk about, although it's very important and if you aren't careful, it can give you a bad time. In class we talked about this problem profusely, and how expectations can lead us to pressure ourselves too much, leading to burnout and constant stress in ourselves and our relationships. We shared a lot of ideas and personal situations about the topic, helping us reflect and show more solutions to this problem, this one being, for example, having sources where to express our emotions, like writing in a diary or doing art. It also helps a lot in setting boundaries, saying whether you are comfortable or not with the expectations people give to you. Have a good schedule and know when to take breaks, (we deserved those haha). And last but not least, the idea to acknowledge ourselves and not be afraid to ask for help.

Personally, I felt really seen with the topic, because I've been leading with expectations more than usual, because, well, I'm almost graduating from high school, so I need a really good grade, also I've been told that the more activities I'm into, the better my curriculum will be, and obviously, the fact that I need to know my career and the university I want to go to, which, I don't know yet know any of those. So, this topic helped me a lot and encouraged me to take better care of myself and the environment around me, and I think I'm doing better! :)
